Dragon Head Three-stringed Plucked Instrument

Dragon head three-stringed plucked instrument is a popular musical instrument of Bai nationality in Jianchuan County, Yunnan Province, China. It is named after the dragon head carved on the string rod. The instrument is composed of the dragon head, string axis, three strings, string rod, string drum, string yards and plucked bead. The length of the string rod varies with the circumference of the string drum. The commonly used wood for making it includes pear wood, yew, torreya wood and other hard wood. Jianchuan have many minor-key types of Bai folk song. When singing Bai tune must be accompanied by dragon head three-stringed plucked instrument. The sound of the instrument is a little stuffy, which goes well in harmony with the Bai tune. Jiang Zongde, a national inheritor of Bai Song, began singing Bai tune at the age of 16. He is good at playing and singing by himself. In this video, Jiang Zongde introduced the structure and fingering of dragon head three-stringed plucked instrument, and played and sang two Bai tunes.
